Signage

UC Santa Cruz is committed to fostering a campus where everyone feels they belong and are treated with respect. Our goal in designing signs for all-gender restrooms was to ensure that the signs meet the needs of our transgender and gender nonconforming constituents, and clearly convey (including to non-English speakers) that it is a restroom and is available to everyone.

After extensive signage research, considering the University of California all-gender sign guidelines, and getting input from the campus LGBTQ community, a survey with three sign designs was sent to the campus for feedback. The design below was selected by a majority of respondents and is now the new all-gender restroom sign design for UC Santa Cruz.
